Roly Serrano

Rolando «Roly» Serrano (n. Guachipas, Salta; 8 April 1955) is a prominent actor with a wide career in cinema, theatre and television, and Argentine puppetry. He was born in Guachipas, a village of about 600 inhabitants 115 km south of the capital of the province of Salta.At five months he was abandoned by his mother (named Rodriguez). He was taken to the city of Salta, where he spent a difficult childhood since between 7 and 13 years old he lived with some guys who mistreated him: In 1968, at 13 years old, he escaped from that house, and went to live in the street and in places of passage, where several people helped him. He told that nobody gave a weight for him, but that thanks to the acting art, he began to develop a face that had been hidden long ago. His life turned around when, taking charge of his vocation, he joined with the art groups and he began to be able to be a theatre. Then I discovered that the acting game was nothing more than that," he said in an interview. In 1976, compulsory military service led him to live in Cordoba. When he left—in full military dictatorship—he started military in the banned Communist Party. In 1981 he moved from Cordoba to Buenos Aires, where he studied theatre, which was awarded by Rubens Correa at his school La Barraca. He also worked as a chauffeur. That same year the Open Theatre group began, in which he worked as a machinist."I saw the rehearsals of all the works. That was the biggest theatre course I did." With Rubens Correa, Tito Cossa and Diego Peretti refounded the Teatro del Pueblo.

In 2004, his wife Claudia died of leukemia. Her son has lived with him.Since 2012, he has been in treatment for his obesity at Dr. Alberto Cormillot's clinic.
