Milton, during the war of liberation of Nazi-fascists in Italy in 1944, intends to find out if his best friend, Giorgio, was a lover of Fulvia, of whom Milton is in love. That is why he climbs to the Piedmont mountains together with the partisans in search of Giorgio. When he discovers that his friend has been captured by the fascists and is about to be shot, he thinks of capturing a fascist to get a prisoner exchange. In fact, Milton manages to capture a black-shirt sergeant but when he manages to escape he is forced to kill him in order not to be denounced, making all his intentions useless.
