The film deals with the events related to Franco Basaglia director of the asylum in Gorizia and promoter of the law that bears his name that revolutionized the conception of the mentally ill. Under the guise of factor what will be the new director of the asylum in Gorizia realizes the conditions in which the patients of the asylum live. Among electroshocks, lobotomys, forced shirts, beatings and closure the mentally ill live in a gruesome situation. Becoming director manages to modify the role of operating doctors and nurses and improve the living conditions of the patients.
