Axel Corti's meticulous, but also very irreconcilable film, based on the book and script by Michael Scharang, describes the story of a young Burgenlander named Franz, who works in an expanding construction company. The boss urgently needs workers and tries to bind Franz to his company by promising him a promotion to a polisher. Franz is unwise. After some hesitation, however, he accepts the offer of a large construction company. Franz wants to start a family with his pregnant friend Erna and build a house.
