The script is based on the case of the disappearance of American student Natalee Holloway, which occurred in Aruba in May 2005, and the persecution of prime suspect Joran van der Sloot across several countries.It is the sequel to The Story of Natalee Holloway, a television film based on Beth Holloway's book.Tracy Pollan played Beth Holloway, mother of Natalee, a role he also played in The Story of Natalee Holloway. Francesco Quinn played Stephany Flores' father.The film was premiered when Joran van der Sloot, the main suspect in the case of Natalee's disappearance, waited for trial in Peru for the murder of Stephanie Flores.
