The white cabbage harvest of the agricultural production cooperative (LPG) "Neuland" is a perishable fate, since the presumptuous head of the VEAB (people's own collection and purchase company) Amann has decided that cauliflower is better for the feeding of the population. The pretty, fleeting bookkeeper of the LPG, Gritt, gets over such a measure of authority and is wildly determined to step on Amann's feet. Here chance comes to her aid - in the form of the writer Hans Brauer, who is actually only looking for material for his new literary work, but is mistakenly held for an instructor from Berlin. Amann trembls with fear, now flees forward and brings everything to its purest. The supposed instructor has fallen in love with the bookkeeper.
