This picture shows the Columbia crossing the line, leading the Shamrock by about 1/2 mile. The Shamrock is plainly seen in the distance and she later comes up and crosses the line in the same picture.

'Columbia' Winning the Cup is a silent short film of 1899 directed by J. Stuart Blackton and Albert E. Smith who produced the film for the Edison Manufacturing Company.The photograph of the film was attributed to Edwin S. Porter but, according to the Edison 1890-1900, the cameramen were Blackton and Smith.In 1899, the America's Cup was won by defending Columbia, challenged by the first Shamrock (name of the Irish trifolio) commissioned by the tea baron, Sir Thomas Lipton and built by William Fife.
